Obedience Training Programs
TRAINING BOTH ENDS OF THE LEASH
At Ugly Dog Daycare & Training, our family has decades of experience training dogs for all kinds of needs. But we don’t offer typical dog training with an endless supply of treats—we want your dogs to respect you and us without doing so just for the incentive alone. That means we’re also going to have homework for you! We offer obedience training, therapy dog training, and hunting dog training (with group classes coming soon),and we’re just as happy to accept dogs from all over the United States as we are to work with those in Genesee and Oakland counties at our Goodrich, Michigan, facility.

Our Programs

Our Acceptance
We’re happy to accept dogs that have not been spayed or neutered! Just make sure they’ve had their vaccinations for rabies, distemper, and Bordetella.
Our Suites
Though your dogs won’t spend much time in their suites, they’ll be comfortable, happy, and healthy—all of our suites are designed to control contamination.
Beginner Puppy, intermediate, & Advanced
Group Training Classes $199
During this 6-week course, our professionals will explain techniques along with preparing you as a handler to make necessary corrections when needed. The overall goal for this class is to build confidence, manners, and a respectable bond between you as a handler and your dog. This training course includes two FREE daycare days to improve socialization and pup cups at the end of class to celebrate success! You will also have full access to our online video library to help you step by step at home with each command, whether it is on or off leash. Board & Train Programs
Ugly Dog Daycare & Training offers several obedience training programs that include boarding and indoor/outdoor activities. We’re more than happy to work with your dogs on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis, but we strongly recommend our 30-day foundational program. That’s because it gives your dogs the best chance to not only acclimate to a new setting, but to also learn new verbal and physical commands more effectively. Here’s what to expect:

- 4-weeks: $1,195 (Recommended Foundation Program)

Week 1
Your dog(s) will be getting comfortable with our facility and staff! The first 7 days of training is focused on learning 9 basic commands along with a slip lead (Slip leads have the appearance of a regular leash but do not clip onto a collar. Slip leads simply give you more control without being abrasive like a pinch collar or choke chain).
Week 2
While on a slip lead, our trainers solidify commands. They also begin slowly moving away from verbal commands and teaching them how to recognize physical cues. For example, gently pulling up on the slip lead is your dog's cue to SIT without verbally asking. Same goes for when you are heeling down a sidewalk and your feet stop moving - that is the dog's cue to SIT without giving a verbal command.
Week 3
At this point, we drop all verbal commands. You should have a dependable dog without treats and without conversation! Now let's jump into distractions - paying attention to the handler instead of toys, other dogs, other animals, and even new people and children entering the space.
Week 4
In the final week, we transition to off-lead training. Consistency is key! A scheduled consultation is included on your pick-up day. Our trainers will spend time with you so all that we have done will transfer back into the home.
